VIWMA TO INCREASE COMMERCIAL SOLID WASTE TIPPING FEE STARTING JANUARY 1, 2026

(Virgin Islands) – The Virgin Islands Waste Management Authority (VIWMA) would like to inform the community that an additional $1.25 will be added to the commercial solid waste tipping fee, increasing the overall fee from $6.25 to $7.50 per cubic yard, effective January 1, 2026.

The Virgin Islands Public Services Commission-mandated fee is essential for improving the Virgin Islands' environment and goes beyond mere waste processing; the financial support enables the VIWMA to maintain high standards of waste management, ensuring that solid waste is processed in an environmentally responsible manner.

The funds generated from the tipping fees help support vital operations at the three VIWMA disposal facilities: the Anguilla Landfill on St. Croix, the Bovoni Landfill on St. Thomas, and the Susannaberg Transfer Station on St. John, where the fees are assessed. The fees will help cover the cost of waste disposal (e.g., operations, equipment purchases, environmental monitoring, and more).

This is a step toward a cleaner, healthier Virgin Islands and will improve the quality of life for residents and visitors alike.

VIWMA SCHEDULED TO CONTINUE ESSENTIAL SEWER LINE REPAIRS IN ANNAS RETREAT "NEW TUTU"

(St. Thomas, USVI) – The Virgin Islands Waste Management Authority (VIWMA) advises the community that sewer line repairs will take place along the route from 173-157 to 173-164 in Annas Retreat, “New Tutu.” This work is scheduled for Sunday, November 16, 2025, through Monday, November 17, 2025, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. During this time, one lane of the road will be closed. Motorists are advised to proceed with caution, reduce their speed, and follow the instructions given by road crew members or traffic personnel on-site.

VIWMA apologizes for any inconvenience and appreciates the community’s patience and cooperation as we work to maintain and improve the territory’s wastewater infrastructure.

VIWMA ANNOUNCES REMOVAL OF ONE (1) BIN IN SOTO TOWN, ST. THOMAS

(St. Thomas, USVI) – The Virgin Islands Waste Management Authority (VIWMA) advises the public that on Saturday, November 30, 2025, one (1) of the four (4) residential waste bins located in Soto Town, St. Thomas, will be permanently removed.

Residents in the area may continue to utilize the three (3) remaining bins at the Soto Town location. The bin being removed is one of three positioned along the road. Following its removal, there will be:

One (1) bin to the north of the removed unit
Two (2) bins to the south, on the left side as you pass Wesleyan Academy

For added convenience, residents are also encouraged to use the five (5) 20-yard bins available at the Cancryn bin site.

VIWMA appreciates the public’s cooperation as the Authority works to maintain efficient and environmentally responsible waste management services across the Virgin Islands.

VIWMA TEMPORARILY ACCEPTING SLUDGE,SEPTAGE, AND GRAY WATER FROM ALL WASTEWATER HAULERS

(St. Thomas, USVI) – The Virgin Islands Waste Management Authority (VIWMA) would like to inform all wastewater haulers that, due to technical issues at the Mangrove Lagoon Wastewater Treatment Plant, sludge, septage, and gray water are temporarily being accepted at the Cancryn Pump Station on St. Thomas. This service is available on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays from 7:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Grease will NOT be permitted.

Haulers are reminded to adhere to all safety protocols, rules, and regulations when entering the facility.

We understand the inconvenience this may cause and rely on your cooperation and continued patience as we work towards a permanent solution.
