BOVONI LANDFILL - SCRAP METAL AREA FIRE

 

(St. Thomas, USVI) – The Virgin Islands Waste Management Authority (VIWMA) advises the community that the Bovoni Landfill will open to VIWMA private haulers on Sunday, July 9, 2023, from 12:00 pm to 5:00 pm. These special hours will help eliminate the build-up of trash that occurred due to the closure of the landfill. We expect normal operations to resume at the Bovoni Landfill no later than Tuesday, July 11, 2023.

 

VIWMA would like to thank the Virgin Islands Fire Department, the Virgin Islands Port Authority, and the Government of the Virgin Islands for their assistance with extinguishing the fire at the scrap metal area. Also, we would like to apologize and thank the community for their patience as we dealt with this unfortunate situation.

(St. Thomas, USVI) - The Virgin Islands Waste Management Authority advises the community of a fire in the scrap metal receiving area (before the Bovoni Landfill entrance). The Virgin Islands Fire Department is on the scene assisting the contractor to extinguish the fire. VIWMA advises the public to stay away from the area and the landfill will be closed for the remainder of the day. We thank you for your cooperation in this matter.

CONCORDIA BIN SITE REOPENS

 

(St. Croix, USVI) - The Virgin Islands Waste Management Authority (VIWMA) advises the community that the Concordia bin site has reopened. The site was temporarily closed due to a fire on Saturday, June 24, 2023.

 

VIWMA would like to thank the Virgin Islands Fire and Emergency Medical Services (VIFEMS) and the Department of Public Works (DPW) for successfully containing and extinguishing the fire.

VIWMA ANNOUNCES EMANCIPATION & FOURTH OF JULY HOLIDAY SCHEDULE

(Virgin Islands) - The Virgin Islands Waste Management Authority (VIWMA) advises the community of the following hours of operation for Monday, July 3 - 4, 2023, in observance of both Emancipation Day and Fourth of July Holidays.

Additionally, due to the July holidays, St. Croix residents residing in Estates Diamond, Diamond Ruby, Diamond and Ruby, Ginger Thomas and Sunny Acres, Mary’s Fancy, Old and New Castle Coakley, Strawberry and Strawberry Hill are advised that the regular Tuesday pick-up will be changed to Wednesday, July 5, 2023. Also, residents residing in Estates Rattan (South), Sion Farm, Sion Hill, Tan Tan Terrace, Anna’s Hope and Constitution Hill are advised that the regular Wednesday pick-up will be changed to Thursday, July 6, 2023.

VIWMA ANNOUNCES TRANSFER DAY AND EASTER HOLIDAY SCHEDULE

 

(Virgin Islands) -April 6 2022 - The Virgin Islands Waste Management Authority (VIWMA) advises the community of the hours of operation for VIWMA's Landfills, Transfer Stations (TS), Convenience Centers (CC) and administrative offices in observance of Easter holidays are as follows:

Additionally, due to the Good Friday holiday, St. Croix residents residing in Estates Herman Hill, Catherine’s Rest, Peter's Rest, Cane Garden, Rosegate, Humbug, Veteran’s Land and Tamarind are advised that the regular Friday pickup will be changed to Thursday, April 14, 2022.
