VIWMA MANGROVE WASTEWATER TREATMENT PLANT SEPTAGE RECEIVING AREA CLOSED DUE TO A MAINTENANCE ISSUE

 

(St. Thomas, USVI) - The Virgin Islands Waste Management Authority (VIWMA) Preserving Paradise team advises the community that the Mangrove Lagoon Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) septage receiving station is unable to accept any waste due to a maintenance issue and will be closed on Wednesday, May 30, 2018. Normal operation will resume on Thursday, May 31, 2018.

VIWMA TEAM CONTINUES REPAIRING TEMPORARILY OFF-LINE LBJ PUMP STATION

 

(St. Croix, USVI) - The Virgin Islands Waste Management Authority (VIWMA) Preserving Paradise team advises the community that the LBJ Pump Station remains off-line.Corrective actions are ongoing to place the pump station online; the Authority’s service provider will be on island today Wednesday, May 02, 2018 to assist.


The Authority advises residents with compromised immune systems to avoid standing water in the vicinity of King and Queen Cross Streets. Additionally, the motoring public is asked to avoid #1 King Cross Street (the back of the Government Parking Lot). Motorists are advised to use alternate routes around this potentially impacted area; the area continues to be monitored and odor suppressant is being applied.

VIWMA REMINDS ALL ST. JOHN HAULERS OF SUSANNABERG TRANSFER STATION USAGE LIMITATIONS

 

(St. John, USVI) - The Virgin Islands Waste Management Authority (VIWMA) Preserving Paradise team would like to remind the St. John Community that the Susannaberg Transfer Station no longer accepts waste from haulers because the site is being utilized for the management of debris from Hurricanes Irma and Maria. Haulers are defined as individuals operating a business for profit whose vehicle/hauling body transports 5 yards or more of waste material. Haulers are required to transport their waste to the Bovoni Landfill.

 

Haulers who are found using the residential bin sites around the island to illegally dump waste will be fined. Fines may include the following: 1,000 hours of community service, 180 days imprisonment or a maximum fine of $1,000.

VIWMA TEAM WORKING TO REPAIR TEMPORARILY OFF-LINE LBJ PUMP STATION

On Monday, April 30, 2018 at 7:00am, the LBJ Pump Station went off-line due to mechanical failure of the diesel pump, corrective actions are ongoing to place the pump station online.

VIWMA BOVONI LANDFILL OPERATING SCHEDULE RESUMES TO REGULAR HOURS

 

(ST. THOMAS, USVI) - The Virgin Islands Waste Management Authority (VIWMA) Preserving Paradise team advises the community that the Bovoni Landfill will resume its regular operating hours effective Friday, April 20, 2018. The Landfill will be open on Sundays from 6:00am to 2:00pm and Mondays thru Saturdays from 6:00am to 4:00pm.

The Authority encourages Haulers to please take safety seriously and are reminded to please wear their safety vests. Safety violations may lead to suspensions.
