VIWMA ANNOUNCES UPDATED HOUSE-TO-HOUSE WASTE COLLECTION PROCEDURES EFFECTIVE JUNE 1, 2026
U.S. Virgin Islands — The Virgin Islands Waste Management Authority (VIWMA) is advising residents of upcoming changes to house‑to‑house waste collection services as part of ongoing efforts to modernize and standardize operations.
Effective June 1, 2026, VIWMA and its contractors will no longer collect waste placed in barrels. All household trash must be bagged and placed inside an approved trash cart that meets VIWMA’s safety guidelines.
Residents are encouraged to transition to a standardized trash cart with a maximum capacity of 64 gallons. Carts can be purchased through VIWMA for $75.00, and they are also available at authorized retailers.
On St. Thomas, carts may be purchased at the VIWMA office in Estate Bovoni, Bay 4. After completing the purchase, customers may take their receipt to the Mandahl Convenience Center in Mahogany Run, located at D-33 Estate Lovenlund, Trash cart pickup is available Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
On St. Croix, carts may be purchased at the Anguilla Landfill office in Estate Bethlehem Middle Works, Monday to Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
To support accessibility, cart drop-off arrangements are available for individuals with disabilities and senior citizens at the point of purchase. Seniors must present a senior citizen ID card. On St. Croix, drop-off service is only available on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
VIWMA appreciates the community’s cooperation as these updated procedures take effect and will continue to provide additional information as needed.
