ANGUILLA LANDFILL REMAINS CLOSED DUE TO ONGOING FIRE RESPONSE

(St. Croix, USVI) – The Virgin Islands Waste Management Authority (VIWMA) advises the public that the Anguilla Landfill will remain closed until further notice as crews continue to respond to an active fire within the facility.

Emergency personnel and VIWMA operations teams have been working diligently to contain and suppress the fire. While significant progress has been made, conditions remain unsafe for public access and normal landfill operations. The continued closure is necessary to protect the safety of residents, staff, and contractors, and to allow responders to complete suppression efforts without interruption.

The Authority urges residents and commercial haulers to refrain from accessing the facility during this time. Additional updates will be provided as more information becomes available and once normal operations can safely resume.

The Authority appreciates the community’s patience, cooperation, and understanding as response efforts continue.
