VIWMA TEAM WORKING TO EXTINGUISH MULCH FIRE AT THE ANGUILLA LANDFILL ENTRANCE

(ST. CROIX, USVI) - The Virgin Islands Waste Management Authority (VIWMA) Preserving Paradise team advises the community of an active fire in the mulch section at the entrance of the Anguilla Landfill. The fire ignited on Sunday, October 14, 2018 at approximately 3am.

The Virgin Islands Fire Service, VIWMA contractors and staff are working expeditiously to bring the fire under control. The VIWMA will provide updates on any changes that may affect the public and haulers from utilizing the Solid Waste Facility.

It is recommended that residents with respiratory disorders/conditions shelter in place to minimize exposure to smoke as wind directions change. The Authority will continue to provide updates regarding changes that may affect public health and the environment.

The VIWMA Preserving Paradise team apologizes for the inconvenience and would like to thank the community for their patience and cooperation.
