  Recycling Information

The VIWMA has initiated several recycling programs including collection and disposal of electronic waste, fluorescent bulbs, scrap metal and tires, aluminum can recycling, and used motor oil disposal sites. It also supports members of the community or organizations who initiate their own recycling programs or businesses.

The Authority currently has a quarterly collection drive for electronic waste, such as computers, printers, telephones, televisions, and other electronic waste that has reached the end of its useful life. A florescent bulb drive was recently initiated on St. Croix that will become inclusive on all three islands and will coincide with the E-Waste quarterly drives.

Once the VIWMA introduces the solid waste Convenience Centers to the Territory, source separation will be encouraged, making it easier for interested persons to partner with the Authority to accept various recyclables that can be reused or remanufactured locally.

The VI Waste Management Authority encourages anyone who is interested in starting a recycling business in the Territory. Recycling reduces the amount of materials that end up in the waste stream, thus shortening the lives of the local landfills.
