One of the goals of the VI Waste Management Authority is to provide educational outreach to the public and private schools in our community. We provide this through the work of our Environmental Programs Division and the Environmental Educator who works within that division. We also provide education materials, class curriculum, and website links to associated organizations that support our goal to educate the youth of our community. Requests can be made to the Environmental Educator to come to your school, church group or youth organization to make presentations on a variety of subjects related to waste management and “Preserving Paradise”. Requesting Classroom Presentation.
The VI Waste Management Authority’s Environmental Educator or the Recycling Coordinator can come to your school and make related presentations that coincide with your current class lesson as it relates to waste management issues, such as solid waste, wastewater, recycling, and general environmental issues.
Requesting Facility Tours.
The VI Waste Management Authority offers tours at its solid waste and wastewater facilities. This includes the Territory’s landfills, the Anguilla Landfill on St. Croix and the Bovoni Landfill on St. Thomas, and transfer station, the Susannaberg Transfer Station on St. John. The wastewater facilities available for tours include the larger treatment plant facilities: Anguilla Treatment Plant on St. Croix, the Mangrove Lagoon or Red Point Treatment Plants on St. Thomas, and the Cruz Bay Treatment Plant on St. John.
Preserving Paradise Kids.
The education of our youth is important to the Authority, as they are our future and we are working hard to ensure that our island homes are preserved for many generations to come. This is an educational outreach program to the students of our community. The Authority believes that we can best educate the parents through their children.
