The VIWMA welcomes the support and assistance of local businesses to help us achieve the goals that we’ve set forth to educate the community and provide programs and services that are required to meet our Mission of safe-guarding the health of Virgin Islanders and visitors and protecting our environment. Local businesses can play different roles to help us "Preserve Paradise" by doing the following:

  1. Ensure that all waste, solid and wastewater, generated by the business is disposed of safely, properly, and in accordance with local and federal laws.
  2. Cooperate with the VIWMA using a licensed and permitted waste hauler.
  3. Spread the "word" about the importance of "Preserving Paradise" and doing your part to help.
  4. Partner with the VIWMA to assist with meeting the Vision of the Authority.

Other Important Information for Businesses

Businesses are NOT allowed to dispose of solid waste at any public disposal site or  to place bags or receptacles along the curbside for house-to-house collection by VIWMA or contracted haulers. Commercial and industrial businesses are required to secure the services of a properly permitted and licensed waste hauler to collect and dispose of their waste on a regular basis. A VIWMA Waste Manifest form must accompany each load of waste for disposal and can be obtained by the waste hauler.

Solid Waste Haulers

All solid waste haulers are to be permitted by the VIWMA to dispose of waste at either of the Territory’s landfills or transfer station. Permits are obtained from the Authority’s Division of Compliance Management and Environmental Enforcement and are to be renewed on an annual basis.

Wastewater Haulers

All wastewater waste haulers are to be permitted by the VIWMA to dispose of waste at any of the Territory’s wastewater treatment facilities. Permits are obtained from the Authority’s Division of Compliance Management and Environmental Enforcement and are to be renewed on an annual basis.

Preserving Paradise Business Partners

A relationship between businesses and the Authority is also encouraged through our Preserving Paradise Business Partnership. This program encourages the support and participation of businesses in our community outreach effort.
