    The Board, Management and Staff of the VI Waste Management Authority are mourning the loss of Sonya D. Nelthropp, Chief Planning Officer. Ms. Nelthropp, age 62, passed away on Tuesday, April 3rd, at her home on St. Thomas.

  • VIWMA Introduces “Big Belly” Solar Waste Receptacles to the Territory

     February 23, 2012
    The VI Waste Management Authority is currently installing six (6) solar recycling and compaction units, known as the “BigBelly” throughout the Territory. The BigBelly Solar is an intelligent waste and recycling collection system that compacts trash on one side and accepts aluminum cans for recycling on the other side. Use of these units will reduce the frequency of collection while increasing recycling opportunities and reducing littering. The units are operated by solar power and can be monitored remotely, advising when the unit is ready to be emptied.

  • VI Waste Management Authority Institutes its Austerity Program

    (St. Thomas, VI) - The VI Waste Management Authority announces its Austerity Program consisting of comprehensive costs cutting measures as it related to public services. These actions include the reduction of operating hours, the termination of programs, and internal controls to reduce the costs of doing business in an effort to reduce operating costs while still providing the services necessary to achieve our mandate to protect public health and our environment.
